Region of Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon is a French region made up of five departments. It is bordered by Spain, Andorra and the Mediterranean Sea (the Gulf of Lion) to the south, and the following French regions: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne, Midi-Pyrénées.

Several natural features form its borders: the Pyrenees mountains, the edge of the Lauragais area, the Cévennes mountains and the River Rhône. Several geographers when talking about the mountains and plains of Languedoc-Roussillon have described a natural amphitheatre facing the sea.
