Romain enjoys his life as an apprentice at Auchan, one of Montpellier Business School’s partner.

Romain Guyader joined Montpellier Business School in 2013 through the entrance system dedicated to the apprenticeship (FIA 1). He is doing his second year of Master’s and is majoring in trade, negotiation and retail. He also began his second year as an apprentice at Auchan, in the hypermarket located in the heart of the shopping center Les 4 Temps in La Défense (Paris). No need to say that the holiday season is an important period for him as he is responsible of the hypermarket’s department dedicated to Christmas decorations.

Originally from Britany, Romain did a two-years diploma in Business by apprenticeship after high school. « I was a personal seller at GDF Suez », recalls the young man. « I continued my studies by apprenticeship because when you try it, it is hard to go back to a traditional program. Montpellier Business School is the only school who offers to do your Master 100% by apprenticeship, that is why I did the entrance exam ».

His office is in Paris, his family in Britany and his school in Montpellier… Romain is 22 years old and has to be organized. « This year I also have my master’s thesis to write so I have no time to get bored. But it is amazing! That is all what I have always wanted and in relation with my age, I am conscious that I am really lucky to have such responsibilities. I started in the food industry, especially in the fish section where I was the section’s manager assistant in a team of 35 people. I learnt a lot by combining management, business and accountancy, and I would like to thank all the team who taught me the job ».

« In October 2015, I was appointed as a trainee department manager in charge of the Christmas decoration department! », continues Romain. « It is a seasonal department concentrated on a short period of time (6 weeks) but it is really important in terms of exposition and profitability. I have to be really performant in terms of objectives (around 350 000 euros). I had an intensive one-month-training to know the products, prepare the installation and get to know my 3 collaborators who make an amazing job to manage the logistic of more than 2000 references (christmas balls, garlands, artificial trees, accessories, nurseries, outdoor decorations ...), on 40 meters of shelves including the floor areas. »

Romain is somehow managing an SME. He has a budget, an income statement, a balance sheet, objectives and collaborators to manage.

Romain loves his life and that's good! « I really would like to thank Mrs. Dalila Sufi, my tutor and department manager who trained me when I started. I learnt a lot at her side. Also a big thank you to Marine Hamon, my current manager, and of course Auchan’s direction who trusts me! ».
