Aeronautics, aviation, purchasing and the USA: Marc-André Kinny, graduated in 2010 from Montpellier Business School

Marc-André Kinny was major of his promotion when he completed his Master with a specialization in Purchasing and Quality Management in 2010. He stayed in this working area while managing to combine it with his two passions: aviation and the United States. This graduate from the Master Grande Ecole program worked in the US for four years as a Purchasing Manager in the Aeronautics sector and took the opportunity to pass his pilot’s license. Back in France for a new professional challenge at Snecma in Paris, he tells us about his American adventure.

In 2006, Marc-André joined the Master Grande Ecole program after two years of preparatory classes. He did his second year as an exchange student at the Eastern Oregon University, his first American experience that would call others ... « I've always been attracted by international experiences and especially by the United States, my exchange year confirmed that attraction. It was an amazing year full of discoveries! So I did the same for the industry in which I was interested in, aeronautics. I worked for Safran during my gap year and then I did a specialization internship with the objective to go abroad agai,n in the US », he says with enthusiasm.

Graduated in 2010, Marc-André left France for a VIE contract (International Corporate Volunteer) in Dallas (Texas) as a Production Buyer for Labinal Power Systems, a company from the Safran group. « This VIE lasted eighteen months, which is the legal maximum in the United States. I took the opportunity to pass the private airplane pilot’s licence. It was a childhood dream! Then the Safran adventure continued since I was recruited in Salisbury (Maryland) as a Buyer Program at the Military Procurement Department. Among others, I worked on contracts for the US Navy for the combat aircraft! During these four years in the US, I could fly almost every week to accumulate a total of 250 hours of flight and I also spent the seaplane qualification in the Maine, which allowed me to discover new sensations. »

One year ago, after four years in the US, Marc-André decided to come back to France at Snecma (Safran group), in Paris. « I wanted to take on new challenges », he explains. « Since one year I am part of the department in charge of the replacement parts for high power motors (GE90 for the Boeing 777, and GP7200 for the Airbus A380…). It is transverse management that touches all the sectors of the company. I have to be sure that the replacement part is available when the motor enters in « shop visit » (maintenance in repair workshop). »

Marc-André will for sure give us some news and will be part of the jury during the oral examination to enter the school.
